Jazz concert hits Toronto’s Distillery District

On May 16th, 2015, at 7pm, Jazz saxophonist Shola Iyiola will take center stage at the Arta Gallery in Toronto’s Distillery District for ‘The HeART Experience’ concert series. This project which fuses a rich display of visual arts with soothing and uplifting jazz sounds, was initiated in the artist’s native hometown of Houston, Texas. “The HeART Experience concert series displays the undeniable connection between art and music, where a combination of these elements ultimately shows the true reflection of the Painter’s idea of a masterpiece being displayed on our hearts” said Shola.

One cutting edge distinction between this concert series and other jazz concerts is the art gallery venue. Shola’s vision was to “provide a classy ambience and a unique approach to bringing art & music together.” The first show on March 14, 2015 in Houston, Texas was sold out with a remarkable attendance of about 170 people. Highlights from ‘the HeART experience’ Houston can be found here.

Shola Iyiola came into the jazz scene in 2004 with a mission to play and create music that captures and awakens the soul of its listeners. “I wanted to create music that captures the closeness that one could have with God” he says. He recently released an EP entitled Divine Intimacy of which the first 2500 copies was donated to African Missions North America, a non-profit organization. Shola is inspired by some of jazz greats like Gerald Albright, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker; and he has shared the stage with Grammy-Award winning saxophonist Kirk Whalum, Don Moen, Anthony Evans & Ron Kenoly. Shola is currently working on his second album, to be released this summer.
