Jide?  Aunty what Jide are you talking about?

How many jide’s have you told me about? Young lady don’t play games with me. You know the Jide I am talking about? Besides I need a little distraction from all that’s been happening around here.

Oh.. you mean that Jide?

“No the other one”, her aunt said smiling.

“Um… aunty he is fine”.  She said causally.

“Just fine?   You couldn’t stop talking about that boy the other day. Jide this, Jide that… Now he is just fine?”

“Aunty I don’t know.  He seems distant. I am not saying he is my boyfriend or anything, but I thought we were cool”.

“What do you mean distant? What happened? Gist me” Her aunt said, leaning forward. *This my aunty is a busy body sha*, she thought to herself.

“Aunty I don’t know how to explain it, but there is something off. I just can’t place my finger on it.  It’s not even about him not calling me. I haven’t seen him in class for the past two weeks. I mounted the courage to ask our Psych professor about his whereabouts, but I was informed he dropped the class.  I could hardly recognize him the other day I bumped into him at the convenience store. He looked like he hadn’t showered in days.  I am sincerely worried about him. I wish I could help…”

“Have you tried calling him again?” She asked.

“I did! …. Once.”

“Besides then, again?”

“Well the first time, he couldn’t wait to get off the phone. I bumped into him later and he was still pulling back..I don’t know if I can call o.  I don’t want to seem pushy.  I hope he’s okay though”

“Hmmm well let’s hope he is okay, her aunt said.  Maybe you will see him after the break. Meanwhile I heard my neighbors’ son is home for the spring break as well. You could go say hello to him one of these days”, her aunt said winking

I guess…

“Let’s go prepare dinner before your uncle gets back from work”, her aunt said walking towards the kitchen.  She followed her aunt to the kitchen still thinking about Jide.
